Third Plant To Shut Down In Four Weeks

Video will be available shortly

There's news today of another plant closing in central Kentucky, the third such announcement in the past four weeks.

This time Rockcastle County takes the economic hit where jobs in Mt. Vernon are becoming hard to come by.

The plastics plant, owned by Alcoa, is closing in about two months leaving 115 workers out of a job.

Several of the employees have worked for the plastic plant for over 20 years.

Mt. Vernon gets some economic benefit from tourism, Renfro Valley is nearby, but manufacturing was once important here, not any more.

Community leaders say they're hard at work trying to attract new business to a town some fear is drying up economically.

The economic development cabinet reports last year Kentucky has lost more than 2,800 full time manufacturing jobs.
