Child Hit By A Car Near Downtown Lexington

A 6 year old girl is recovering after a Jeep hit her at the intersection of Devonia Avenue and Orion Way. Neighbors say the girl tried to cross the road around 5:00

Thursday afternoon when the accident happened. She was rushed to UK hospital with minor injuries. Neighbors say this accident should be a wake up call to drivers who use their street as a cut through from Bryan Avenue and Limestone.

Neighbors who spoke 27 NewsFirst say drivers speed through the area at all hours of the day and night.

However, some residents say children have a make shift basketball hoop on the street and don't move out of the way of cars. Police say this appears to be an accident and the driver of the jeep was not charged.

The young girl is expected to recover.
