Toddler Killed In Lexington Fire

A young Lexington child is dead after a fire at a home near downtown Thursday morning.

Firefighters say two-year-old Taylor Northrup died at the home at 1212 Garrison Avenue at just after 10:30 Thursday morning.

Firefighters learned that someone was trapped in an upstairs bedroom when they arrived on the scene, but they say smoke and flames slowed their progress in reaching the child. She was already dead by the time they reached her.

Two adults and another small child made it out of the house safely. A woman and a four-year-old boy were taken to UK Hospital.

Firefighters say the four-year-old was playing with matches, which lit the bed linens on fire.

An autopsy will be performed on Taylor Northrup which will determine the cause of death.
