Elderly Man Dies In House Fire

Video will be available shortly

An elderly man was found dead Thursday after a fire at his home in Somerset.

Police say 98-year-old James Overby lived alone in the home in the Oaklawn Subdivision. A neighbor called 911 around lunchtime after seeing smoke coming from his home.

Lieutenant William Hurt of the Somerset Police Department, who leaves near Overby, rushed to the home. He found Overby just outside the back of the house, near a basement garage door.

Hurt tried to pull his neighbor away from the burning home, but it was just too late. Hurt suffered smoke inhalation and had to be treated at the hospital.

Overby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire officials think the fire started in the basement garage and, so far, think it is an accident.

The investigation into the fire will continue.
