FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's corrections commissioner says
there were faulty locks on emergency doors inside a medium-security
prison in Burgin that was the site of a fiery riot.
LaDonna Thompson discussed the locks and other safety issues
Thursday during a legislative briefing about the August prison riot
at Northpoint.
A presentation prepared for the briefing showed pictures of
crushed bolts and bent metal on the locks on the emergency doors
leading from the dormitories to the prison yard. Although the doors
were fireproof, Thompson said they were susceptible to being kicked
in by prisoners.
She said there will be a thorough review of locks across the
state's prison system.
