Number of foals born drop in 2009

The number of mares bred to Kentucky stallions has significantly fallen this year.

Statistics released by, 'The Jockey Club' show more than two thousand fewer mares bred this year, than last year, that's a 10.6 percent drop.

Officials say the loss will cut into economic factors as feed sales, farrier services and horse farm employment.

The figures do still show Kentucky continues to dominate the horse market.
