Teacher charged with leaving child home alone pleads not-guilty

At her arraignment Monday afternoon, Erica Cooper's attorney entered her not-guilty plea while she sat in the back of the courtroom.

The 38 year-old teacher at Henry Clay High School is charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and alcohol intoxication.

Cooper was arrested around 4 in the morning this past Friday.

Police were tracking a known crack cocaine dealer in a car, and when police went to get him for trying to make a sale, they say Cooper was the person trying to make the buy.

She was taken to jail where she told authorities she'd left her 2 year old daughter alone at home.

Police say they then found marijuana in her home when they went to get the child.

Cooper gave no comment as she left the courtroom.

She has been suspended from Henry Clay High School.
