Control Tower Staffing Levels Questioned Across The Country

Print

A new report says under staffing of air traffic controllers was a common problem across the country in the months before Comair flight 5191 crashed.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, federal investigators also say around one in ten airports, similar in size to Blue Grass Airport, failed to staff enough controllers during the overnight shift.

When flight 5191 crashed last August, only one controller was on duty. FAA guidelines require two.

Comair is suing the FAA for negligence in the crash based partly on that rule.
