This is not a matter of a house being a little cluttered or dusty. Animal control departments will remove animals from an indoor home only under extreme circumstances, e.g. the animal is in very poor physical condition or he is living in garbage or his own waste. No creature, human or otherwise, should be kept in these types of unsanitary conditions. Can you imagine being trapped in a garbage dump or an outhouse? That is what the home of a hoarder is like for the animals who "live" there. Hoarding is a psychological disorder that is dangerous for animals and people.

I don't care how much a dog owner cleans, if they keep pets in the house, I can tell as soon as I walk in the door. I love pets, they are just meant to be outside or in the garage in my opinion. God created animals to be outside, and gave man the intelligence to build houses to keep the animals out:)

This is crazy. I think we live in a sad county. People make a bigger fuss over animals than they do children. Some dogs live in a dirty house and people are outraged. I mean where do people think dogs lived before people starting keeping them in the house. Good thing society stepped up and starting allowing dogs to live with them. Heaven forbid they get a little dirty. Dogs really must have been miserable living outside in the cold. Don't get me wrong if someone kills an animal for pleasure I get upset about it. Or if they are in a dog pen piled knee deep in crap, it is not right. But come on there are more important things that need addressing. I have seen children in a lot worse condition, and nothing can be done about it. Where is the news during these situations.

wendy, your crazy if you think you can't rescue or adopt a dog just because you have a full time job. Our family has adopted 4 dogs over the last 14 years, we both work full time, and its never been mentioned once. So you need to do some more research or call regional shelters and rescues.

@ GAIL: Yes, I DO have a problem - I have a full time job *GASP* I pass ALL criteria except that one - they want someone to be home 24/7 w/their animals. THIS IS NOT REALISTIC! I guess Ineed to go on public assistance to be considered. So, I finally went out and PURCHASED A PUPPY - what others will also do if rejected for ridiculous reasons. So, before you speak up thinking you know my situation - get the facts.

My restaurant has been trying to adopt dogs for years with no luck...go figure! Yeah, it's sarcasm...I just wish they would take as much initiative with kids as animals. I love my dogs but....

Sorry Wendy, but the last thing they want is for the animals to end right back up out on the streets or abused. Anyone who can't meet every need of an animal is just that much more likely to neglect or abuse the animal. Not everyone mind you, I just said more likely.

Wendy - Shelters and Humane Societies have rules to ensure the animal is going into a good loving home. Unsavory people will try to adopt an animal to sell to a lab or to use as a bait dog in dog fighting. If you rent, they want to ensure your landlord gives their permission so the animal won't have to be returned. If you have shown a propensity for being an unresponsible pet owner (not spaying/neutering, getting their shots, vet checks, etc.) you will probably be rejected. If someone in your household has had an animal cruelty charge against them, you will be refused. They would rather an animal be humanely euthanized than endure neglect, cruelty, or torture. This rules exist for the welfare of the animal, not for your demands. What constitues a "less than perfect" home? If you have been denied several times, you need to wake up. The shelter's don't have the problem - you do.

This is never gonna stop until Kentucky gets serious about humane laws for all its animals. This man had already been charged with cruelty, yet here he is, hoarding animals in filth. I wonder why social services wasn't called to check on this situation, it sounds like this dude needs some help!

They need people to adopt, huh? I have been trying to adopt a dog for almost a year, from a couple of different shelters. they make it near impossible, w/ their ridiculous demands. I guess its better to keep them in overcrowded kennels and ultimately euth. them than to give them to a loving but less than perfect home.

I'm sure this person's age played a large part in not being able to care for the animals, that they probably really did love, but you can't let that love blind you when you are causing suffering. This goes for pets and kids. WONDERING: the world is big enough to take care of both issues, the problem is that it is much harder to take away kids from crappy parents than it is animals for the very reasons you give about kids being more important (although debatable).

Raymond: I have three dogs, my house is spotless. I work tirelessly to sweep up after two Chihuahuas and a very shedding Golden Retriever. Their bowls are spotless, always clean. Their bedding is washed twice a week and they get a bath twice a month. NO, every place where a dog resides is NOT filthy. Filth is something you grow accustomed to, and are OK with. Dogs do not make a place filthy, but you do have to pick up after them.

WONDERING....Let me try to follow your line of thought. We should just ignore any and all egregious situations and assume an uncaring attitude because there are other bad things going on in the world? That's logical...NOT!!!! What in the world does "I do believe that a child in(sic) more important that(sic) an animal." have to do with this?
