A community will remember a murdered little boy as his killer begins serving a recommended life sentence.

A balloon drop is planned for Thursday night at Wesley's Place in Paris.

It is named in honor of six-year-old Wesley Mullins, who was killed in his grandfather's garage by Lewis Buck Ballard in 2007.

Wesley's Place was built on the same piece of property where the garage once stood.

Wednesday, a Woodford County jury recommended Ballard spend life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Throughout the trial, defense attorneys pointed blame at the boy's grandfather, Bobby Mullins.

Family members tell 27 NEWSFIRST Bobby Mullins is now suffering from cancer and doesn't want to talk about the tragedy.
