Hundreds arrested in state's largest-ever drug sweep

Hundreds arrested in drug sweep

Major arrests in 'Pill Pipeline'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Law enforcement leaders in Kentucky say
more than 300 arrests have been made in the largest drug sweep in
the state's history.

Kentucky State Police Commisioner Rodney Brewer said Thursday
that the massive roundup, mostly in eastern Kentucky, is, in his
words, "striking at the heart" of major drug trafficking
organizations and crippling illegal prescription drug pipelines.

Bob McBride with the U.S. Attorney's Office says about 500
people have been charged as part of the crackdown on the massive
influx of pills from other states, such as Florida. He says
methadone and OxyContin were among the most prevalent drugs.

Brewer says the roundup is the result of a three year criminal
investigation.
