The cool, wet weather this season has resulted in brilliant fall color!! Fall color is expected to peak across the Commonwealth this weekend!
Billy Thomas, UK Extension Forester, says, "Sunny days, cool nights, and adequate soil moisture gives us good color and this year is a good year."
Yellow poplars have brilliant color as well as many maples. Thomas recommends going to the Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge, or Cumberland Gap to see the best color.
Experts encourage Kentuckians to enjoy the colorful leaves, but clean up fallen leaves as soon as possible. Fall Fire Season is in full swing and will go until December 15th.
If you plan to dispose of leaves by burning, remember to follow burning restrictions! It is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of woods between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
