WINCHESTER, Ky. (AP) - A former deputy sheriff in central Kentucky has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Brad Myers, a former Clark County deputy, was sentenced Tuesday to serve 30 months in prison on a firearms charge and six months on a drug trafficking charge.
Myers was initially charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and two counts of carrying a firearm while committing the trafficking offense.
In November, he pleaded guilty to one count each of distributing Lortab pills, which contain hydrocodone, and one count of carrying a semiautomatic pistol. The other counts were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Myers' lawyer, James Lowry, said his client's dependency on pain medication was a result of injuries he sustained on the job. Lowry said that following his arrest, Myers cooperated with police and got off drugs.
Myers, the son of former Clark County Judge-Executive John Myers, was fired by Sheriff Ray Caudill after being indicted.
