A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is out for for much of northern and eastern Kentucky until 9 p.m. This is just east of the Lexington metro.
Nearly 60 volunteers from Lowe's and other organizations will be weatherizing six low-income elderly owned households in Lexington through Friday.
Funding for the repairs is through the Prepare Affair program. The program is a partnership between Lowe's, the Realtor Community Housing Foundation, the Remodelers Council of the HBA of Lexington, Shiloh Baptist Church Men's Ministry and Resource Ministry, and the Lexington-Bluegrass Association of Realtors.
The houses chosen for the program will undergo "green" repairs such as weather stripping and new storm windows and doors. The repairs are estimated to save the homeowners between 20%-25% on energy bills this winter.
To qualify for the weatherization project, households must meet the minimum income requirements and be over 62 years of age.
