A day after proposing a budget for Lexington, Mayor Jim Newberry explains why he wants to spend millions of dollars to improve city parks.
He talked about some of the proposed improvements today, at Speigle Heights Park.
He's asking for several projects, including new recreational trails, an update for the city's older parks, and a new nature center at Raven Run.
Newberry wants to spend $5 million in all. He says parks have not received enough money in recent years.
He also says the money spent on new trails could be used as matching funds for federal grants.
