Remains Found at Eastern State Hospital Reburied

Their names are unknown, and so are the causes of their deaths. But Wednesday, the remains of 11 people found on the grounds of Eastern State Hospital were reburied.

They were buried in a mass grave just behind the Hope Center. Their bones yielded a few clues as to who they were. Some were epileptic, others suffered from depression, and others were psychotic. There are only three personal markers in the cemetery. The bodies now there were moved from what is now Lexmark property.

The eleven bodies reburied today were found by an observant construction crew putting in new water lines at the hospital. Some say many more bodies could still be buried in unmarked graves on the property of Eastern State Hospital.
