The homeowners heard, "open up, Police!" but State Troopers say it was a couple masked men looking for money, and were willing to get by any means necessary.
Around 10:30 Wednesday night, at a home on Horan Lane in Springfield, two men allegedly wearing ski masks and carrying large guns tried to pass themselves off as police.
Some how the two men got into the home and stole money from a man and women living in the trailer.
Police say the homeowner tried to run away when he realized what was happening but was chased down by one of the masked men and assaulted.
The two men were able to get away and police have little clues to go on they say.
They do want to warn others not to be so trusting when they hear a knock on the door then someone claiming to be police.
A good piece of advice is to ask to see a badge or get the badge number that way you can call the police yourself and ask if they sent an officer to your door.
Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call State Police.
