Grand Jury Takes Action In Death Of Bed-Ridden Woman

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A 42-year-old Lexington woman has been
indicted by a Fayette County Grand Jury in the death of her
bedridden mother.

Cynthia Wallace is accused of neglecting her mother and eventually causing her death in October. Wanda Maxine Wallace was found dead in her bed in October.

A police report from October 29th says Wanda Wallace was found in poor living conditions and had not been bathed in weeks. It also says she had severe bed sores and was lying in excrement.

The state medical examiner's office estimated Wallace had been dead for up to a week before authorities were notified.

Cynthia Wallace told police she was the sole caretaker of her mother. Wallace also told police she had access to her mother's bank accounts. A brother of Wanda Wallace, Ed Clay, told police he suspected misappropriation of funds from his mother's accounts.

Detectives found about 45-thousand dollars had been transferred in the previous six months from the elder Wallace's account to an unknown account.
