A family returns to a crash site on Highway 68 in Bourbon County.

"We've been at the hospital all night, so this is the first place we came," says Gayle Singleton, whose mother, Laura Riddle, was in the car accident.

Singleton and her daughter, Jackie Troxell, are searching for Sarah, a 3-year-old miniature dachshund.

"She could be anywhere," says Troxell.

Sarah was lost following a Monday morning accident, that left 66-year old Riddle with broken bones and other serious injuries, when her car crashed into a culvert, making her car flip.

But Riddle's family says all the 66-year old can think about is her lost companion.

The family tells 27 NEWSFIRST, the dachshund normally sits right behind Riddle's neck in the car.

The family believes Sarah was alive following the accident and is now crying out to the public for help, including a witness who was first on the scene of the accident.

"There's a woman who was there before police did, and she's the one who called 9-1-1," says Troxell. "Any information would help."

Please please convey this to those who were in the accident. It may not be too late. Go back to the accident scene and, about 50-100 feet off the road, place a piece of clothing with the scent of the dog's owner on it. Return the following day and you could find your dog sitting on the garment. Years ago, a friend crashed his pickup and the dog, frightened, ran off. My friend, unhurt, called and called for the dog, but had no luck. He then removed his shirt and placed it on the ground inside the woods, safe from the highway. Next day, he returned to find his buddy patiently waiting on the shirt. Good luck!
