Sonar used in search for missing Casey County man

Mike Austin believes the body of his uncle, 55-year-old Charles Randolph, could be in a pond close where he lived. Tuesday, a group from Somerset with sonar equipment began using technology to see through what divers could not.

“When the divers were here, it was only touch and feel. They couldn’t see anything,” said Casey County Deputy Sheriff Chad Weddle.

The sonar picked up 5 possible targets.

Then a diver jumped in, to take a closer look. But most of the objects were rocks, or just large items dumped into the water. Still the family is hopeful, yet nervous about what could be found.

“Anxiety, hoping for closure. Hoping we can find a body, if that’s what happened,” said Randolph’s nephew, Mike Austin.

Randolph has not been seen since Oct. 15. Family members say it is very odd he left his dog, truck, and medication, and didn't tell anyone where he was going.

Police say they really don’t know what happened, but family members say that the fact that he’s been missing well over a month, they’re almost certain they’re not going to find him alive.

Police aren’t commenting on a possible crime being committed, because they say they don’t have facts pointing to that.

“I feel something is definitely not right. As far as any factual info, saying foul play has happened, we don’t really have that yet,” said Weddle.
