Lexington waterways are in violation to the Clean Water Act due to stormwater runoff.

A stormwater campaign begins today in an effort to educate residents of the serious water issue. The campaign includes educational television ads.

Stormwater runoff occurs when rain or melting snow flows over impervious surfaces. The water picks up litter, chemicals, or sediment and flushes the toxins into nearby storm sewers, and eventually into creeks and streams.

Beginning January 4, 2010 a small fee will appear on your Kentucky American Water bill. All households will be required to pay just over 4-dollars a month as a contribution to the water cleanup effort.
