Ronnie Lawson, a manager at Lincare, says he heard one of his eight delivery trucks start up from his office.
"It sounded like the muffler fell off."
A closer look showed a more costly problem. Two catalytic converters, a car part used to filter harmful exhaust fumes, had been cut out from under the van.
He was not alone, four other businesses and a church also reported stolen catalytic converters stolen from company vans and trucks.
The converters contain valuable metal like platinum, and can sell for hundreds on the black market.
Powell says they can cost thousands to replace. He is still waiting for the van to come back from the shop, in the meantime his drivers are having to double-up in one van.
He is loosing money each day because of this one crime.
Powell was also told by police, because there are no serial numbers on the catalytic converters tracking down the people responsible is nearly impossible.
The manager does plan to install security cameras in hopes of catching this crime on tape, he's been told by police it's the only way to prosecute the criminals.
