Crash Sends Four High School Students To Hospital

A central Kentucky high school student is fighting for his life after he was involved in a crash on the way to school Wednesday morning.

Police say the Dunbar High School junior and three senior girls were involved in the crash at around 8:00 on westbound Versailles Road. The crash happened not far from Keeneland.

Police say the tire on the red Geo Prism went flat, causing the driver to lose control. The car slammed into a Keeneland vehicle that was parked on the side of the road. An employee of the track had stopped to turn on a message board sign.

The male passenger, who was sitting in the rear seat on the passenger side suffered the most serious injuries. We're told he's undergone surgery at UK medical center.

Police say the inexperience of the driver may have factored into the crash.

School officials are expected to visit the hospital sometime Wednesday afternoon and an emergency crisis response team is prepared to go to Dunbar, if needed.

We'll have the latest details on the crash coming up on 27 NEWSFIRST at five.
