Agreement Reached In Hospital Strike

HAZARD, Ky. (AP) - Negotiators reached a tentative, three-year
contract agreement between Appalachian Regional Healthcare and the
United Steelworkers.

Joe Worthington is chief negotiator for A-R-H. He says the hospital believes it is a balanced contract.

About 2,400 employees are covered under the contract. Union officials are to give their members details of the tentative agreement and a vote is expected to follow.

Workers went on strike April 1 due to disagreements on wages and health care costs.

The steelworkers union represents about 60 percent of ARH's 4,600 employees in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia.
