UK To Offer Domestic Partner Benefits

Print

The University of Kentucky's Board of Trustees expanded employee benefits Tuesday to include domestic partners.

The vote makes the school Kentucky's second public university to offer domestic partner benefits - the University of Louisville began offering them earlier this year.

Eligibility for the University of Kentucky's benefits, which will cover unmarried same-sex and opposite sex couples, will begin in July.

To qualify, those seeking the benefits must sign an affidavit and demonstrate financial interdependence.

The domestic partner benefits were part of a larger package of benefits the trustees passed during a regular meeting. University
President Lee Todd Jr. backed offering the expanded benefits package.

Todd said in a written statement that a majority of Fortune 500 companies offer some form of domestic partner benefits.
