A deadly crash on busy New Circle Road this morning left the entire area shut down for hours as police worked to clean up the scene.

It happened just before eight Wednesday morning on New Circle Road between Nicholasville and Harrodsburg roads.

At least three other people were taken to the hospital, including two children.

Police say a Dodge Durango driving on the outer loop crossed the median onto the inner loop. Several cars swerved to get out of the way

Police say a late model Altima, driven by 26-year old Sima Maiti, couldn't react fast enough and was hit head on. Maiti died at the scene.

Three people in the Durango were injured and transported.

A third car was scraped, but the driver is fine according to people at the scene.

The road remained shut down most of the morning. All lanes reopened at around 12:30 in the afternoon.
