Lexington police have named a suspect in a deadly apartment fire, but there's a twist.

Police say the man suspected of setting last month's deadly fire at Surfside Apartments committed suicide.

Late Thursday morning, Lexington police identified 44-year-old Mark Childress as the man suspected of setting the deadly fire at Surfside Apartments march 31st.

Police say Childress committed suicide a week after the fire. Now they say their investigation is closed.

The fire killed 32-year-old James Champcara. He died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.

His body was found near one of the exits at the back of the building.

Three other people had to be treated for smoke inhalation and one person suffered a broken leg after jumping from her second story window.
