Police Say Woman Lied About Tragedy To Get Money

Video will be available shortly

Just one week after a tragic accident took the lives of Melanie Wise and her three children, police say a woman tried to profit from their deaths.

36-year-old Connie Frances Long was arrested on three counts of theft of identity without consent and is being held in the Marion County Detention Center.

Investigators tell 27 NEWSFIRST Long lied when she told people she was the sister of Curtis Wise, Melanie Wise's husband and the father of their three children who died in the accident.

Victims of the scam told police that Long said she was collecting money to pay for funeral expenses. Police received numerous phone calls about the suspicious request and confirmed through the Wise family that Long was not related to them.

It's unknown at this time how much money Long collected during her alleged one-week scam, police say that is still under investigation.

Long will be arraigned in Marion County Court Friday or Monday.

If you have any information regarding this matter you should call the Marion County Sheriff Department or The Lebanon Police Department.
