Queen Elizabeth II Arrives at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Queen Elizabeth the second and her husband, Prince Philip, have arrived in Lexington (Kentucky) for their trip to the Kentucky Derby tomorrow.

A British Airways 777 jet carrying the royal couple touched down at 5:42 p-m E-D-T at Blue Grass Airport.

Air traffic at the airport was stalled for several minutes for the arrival. Airport officials say there's usually little traffic during that time of day and that any disruptions were minor.

The jet circled the airport's primary runway and parked at a paved ramp area between the main terminal building and a facility for general aviation flights.

The queen wore a lavender overcoat over a light blue and white dress and white gloves and carried a small handbag over her left arm.

After walking down the ramp, she was greeted by Blue Grass Airport director Michael Gobb, his wife, Kristina, and their nine-year-old daughter, Kirsten. Kirsten Gobb presented the queen with a bouquet of pink and white roses.

Also there to greet the queen was former British ambassador Will Farish, who owns Lane's End Farm in central Kentucky.

The prince and queen got into one of two black Chevy suburbans and left the airport as part of a police motorcade. Airport officials say they don't know the queen's destination, but she has stayed at Lane's End during previous trips to Kentucky.
