Ragland Will Be Tried In Jefferson County

Video will be available shortly

A re-trial of the man accused of killing UK football player Trent DiGiuro has been granted and Judge Thomas Clark has decided to hold it in Louisville.

34-year-old Shane Ragland is awaiting a retrial on charges that he shot and killed DiGiuro while the athlete was celebrating his 21st birthday in 1994.

The state Supreme Court ordered a new trial in March 2006 based on inadmissible evidence concerning a bullet during the first trial. A Fayette Circuit Court jury convicted Ragland in March 2002.

Ragland's lawyers had asked Fayette Circuit Judge Thomas Clark to move Ragland's trial to Louisville and he has agreed. The trial is scheduled to begin October 15th.

Aimee Lloyd was a key witness in the case that convicted Ragland. She's his ex-girlfriend who says he confessed to her about killing Digioro.

Lloyd's attorney Tom Bullock wouldn't bend when asked if his client would again testify.

Ragland has been free on one million dollars bond since July.
