New Images for Kentucky License Plates

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Some of Kentucky's specialty license plates are going to change next year and the decision may disappoint some U-K and U-of-L sports fans.

The wildcat, cardinal and butterfly are being dropped while the hummingbird, dragonfly and a waterfall are being added.

They're a ruby-throated hummingbird, two blue-faced dragonflies and Cumberland Falls.

Those were the most popular among several designs displayed at the Kentucky State Fair last year and in Internet voting. Among the runners-up: orange coneflowers, a mallard, a bass and Natural Bridge, and the wildcat, cardinal and viceroy butterfly that currently appear on plates.

Nature plates cost an additional ten dollars. The extra money goes toward buying and managing natural areas and wildlife habitats across the state. The plates generate about one (m) million dollars a year.
