Fayette County Schools May Offer New Benefits for Bus Drivers

Fayette County School Officials say it's getting harder these days to find people to drive school buses.
Many only work part time, either after retirement, or as part of a group of other part time jobs.
20 years ago, Fayette County had 250 bus drivers, but now there are only 165. This comes as the county has grown and seen more traffic in recent years.
Fayette County Schools Transportation Chief John Kiser says the county is trying to attract more drivers looking for full time work. Many are people who can't afford to go the summer without a pay check.
He also says the current start time schedule strains drivers too far, and he hopes proposed changes for next year will help.
The school board is expected to vote on those changes May 21.
