Workers escape safely after fire breaks out inside mine

A serious situation on Thanksgiving Day at a Kentucky mine.

State Police and Harlan County Emergency Management were called to a fire Thursday morning at the Rex Coal Company's mine on Highway 38 in Harlan.

Emergency officials tell 27 NEWSFIRST some workers were near the mine at the time, but all of them managed to escape safely.

Officials say they don't know the extent or cause of the fire.
