Kentucky Soldier Dies In Training

The military has identified a soldier who died of a heart attack at a National Guard base in South Mississippi as Sgt. Atta P. Okyere of Kentucky.

Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict said Okyere, 33, suffered from hypertensive heart disease and coronary artery disease.

Okyere was assigned to the Army Reserves 728th Engineer Detachment out of Bardstown, said Maj. William Ritter, an Army public affairs officer.

Okyere was participating in a land navigation course at Camp Shelby, a federally mobilized Guard base. Okyere was at the base to take the Warrior Leader Course, offered during noncommissioned officer training, Ritter said in a news release.
