Farmer Gets Republican Nomination for Agriculture Commissioner

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Richie Farmer extended his political life
after basketball Tuesday night, easily winning the Republican
nomination for agriculture commissioner.
With 26 percent of precints reporting, Farmer had 44,962 votes,
or 83.3 percent, to former state budget analyst Don Stosberg's
9,008, or 16.7 percent.
Farmer rode his popularity as a former Kentucky shooting guard
to win the statewide office in 2003 and mostly stuck to the same
game plan this spring in his bid for re-election.
Cattle farmer David Neville of Pleasureville and retired cable
contractor David Lynn Williams of Glasgow were locked in a tight
race for the Democratic nomination.
With 26 percent of precints reporting, Williams had 37,139
votes, or 51.8 percent, to Neville's 34,550, or 48.1 percent.
