Change In Leadership For Kentucky Democratic Party

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Steve Beshear says he is recommending State Treasurer Jonathan Miller to head the Kentucky Democratic Party.

The Democratic Executive Committee is scheduled to meet next week to consider the recommendation.

The current head of the party, Jerry Lundergan, says he's planning to resign next week. Lundergan has been chairman since 2005.

Beshear, a former lieutenant governor, won the Democratic nomination in Tuesday's primary election and will face Governor Fletcher in the fall general election.

Lundergan says Beshear, as the Democratic nominee, holds the right to pick a new leader.

Less than a month ago, Miller was also a candidate in the Democratic race for governor, but dropped out in May and threw his support to Beshear.
