Crash Closes Interstate; Sends Six To The Hospital

Video will be available shortly

A nightmare Friday afternoon for people traveling for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. A serious crash closed Interstate 75 down just as people were hitting the road for vacation.

The crash involved two cars near the 106 mile marker in the northbound lanes in Fayette County. Five people were taken to the hospital in ambulances. A sixth victim had to be airlifted from the scene.

Police, EMS workers and firefighters were helped at the scene by National Guard troops who happened to be driving past the scene.

All northbound lanes were closed for a time while crews worked to clear the scene. The whole road re-opened by 5:00 Friday afternoon.

There's no word yet on the identities of the victims or their conditions.
