CADIZ, Ky. (AP) - Businesses preparing to serve alcohol when
liquor sales soon become legal in a western Kentucky county may not
get to advertise those beverages.
A proposed alcohol sales ordinance under review by Trigg County
officials would forbid businesses from posting signs advertising
alcohol, the Kentucky New Era of Hopkinsville reported.
The draft proposal also forbids alcohol sales on Sundays and
after midnight, as well as drink specials after 6 p.m., smoking in
locations that sell alcohol by the drink and selling alcohol to
anyone who appears intoxicated, the newspaper reported.
Trigg County Judge-Executive Stan Humphries said the goal is to
help the county stay "family friendly." He said that alcohol
advertising would not be appropriate.
"We feel that any kind of promotion along those lines is not
needed or warranted," he said. "This not only takes away from the
look of the community but could perhaps be perceived as promoting
additional drinking."
County residents can comment on the proposed ordinance at a
Trigg County Fiscal Court meeting. Residents can also offer
suggestions for amending the ordinance before the proposal receives
a second reading at the Dec. 7 fiscal court meeting.
Humphries said the ordinance should take effect on Jan. 1, after
it passes two readings.
The ordinance represents about a month and a half of work, Quinn
said. He and Humphries started working on it shortly after Trigg
County voted to lift prohibition in late September.
"It's been a process of gathering information from various
ordinances from around the region, around the state, and pulling
bits and pieces from those ordinances and trying to make it Trigg
County's ordinance," Humphries said.

Some of these restrictions seem a bit heavy handed. Are they going to over tax the drinks too?
