In Lexington, there were 236 more violent crimes reported from 2005 to 2006, but the most violent crimes, murder, rape and robbery were down.

In 2005, there were 1,476 violent crimes reported in Lexington that compares to 1,712 in 2006.

Murders went down from 15 to nine, rape was down from 147 to 128 and robberies were down 70 from 575 in 2005 to 505 in 2003.

Most people we talked to credited the Lexington Police department for the decrease. Most people say they see more patrols around Lexington and it is detering criminals.

Kentucky's largest city, Louisville also saw a slight decrease in the most violent crimes. in 2005 there were 55 murders in Louisville compared to 50 in 2006.
