From abandoned to "Wonder Dogs"

Two Pike County dogs are on their way to New York to begin taping for a show on Animal Planet.

Tic and Tac's story begins when the two terriers were found wandering the streets.

"Our animal control officers were driving down that same road, so they picked them up because they didn't belong in the road," Bonita Rose, of the Humane Society, said.

They were brought to the Pike County Animal Shelter, and their pictures were posted to petfinder.com. A few days later, the Animal Planet show "Underdog to Wonder Dog" called, saying they were interested in featuring the two dogs. The show portrays dogs going from abandonment, to a new home.

"These two dogs, should be called 'Lucky.' Because they were picked out of thousands of other animals," Rose said.

Donna Stratton and other shelter workers had to do a lot of preparation for Tic and Tac to get on the show and into a family.

"They need another video, saying they need to test these dogs. Hold them up, put them down, pull their tails, pull their ears to make sure they weren't nippers and biters," Donna Stratton, of the Pike County Animal Shelter, said.

In the end, Tic and Tac won, and are now on their way to New York City. They will be rehabilitated, trained, primped, pampered, then go to their new home.

"It's kinda bittersweet. Because you hate to say goodbye to a little critter you've become acquainted with. But we know that these animals are going to end up in a wonderful home," Rose said.

"I was happy for them, but I wish I could see more on that plane go to good homes," Stratton said.

Shelter workers were sad to see Tic and Tac leave, but they know they will be able to see the two stars on TV. Taping for the show will begin immediatly, but the show's premiere time is not known yet.
