Lt. Governor responds to shooting death of colleague

Daniel Mongiardo, who has a private practice in Hazard, says the senseless death of a fellow Doctor could be linked to growing problem involving prescription pills.

As a doctor, Daniel Mongiardo has tremendous respect for a fellow physician like Dr. Dennis Sandlin.

He says Sandlin left town to get an education, but then came back to make a difference in Perry County.

He also says Perry County, and Eastern Kentucky in general, have a problem of prescription drug abuse.

Mongiardo says there have been times in his experience where patients will demand a certain narcotic and get very angry if they are not given the drugs they ask for.

He says if the death of Dr. Sandlin proves anything, it proves that drug abuse is certainly not a victimless crime.
