LOS ANGELES (AP) - After just three days behind bars, Paris Hilton has returned to more comfortable surroundings.

Instead of 23 days in jail, she's going to serve 40 days of home confinement. She left the jail and returned home early this morning. And a sheriff's department spokesman says Hilton has been fitted with an ankle bracelet to make sure she stays put.

The spokesman says the decision was made partly because of an unspecified medical condition.

Hilton arrived at the jail Sunday night to start serving a sentence for violating probation. She'd pleaded no-contest to a reckless driving charge in January, and was sentenced to 36 months' probation. When she was later pulled over again, she was told she was driving on a suspended license, and she signed a document acknowledging she was not supposed to drive. She was then pulled over again in February.
