State Officials Say Drought Getting Worse

So far, 12 counties have reported water shortages or other problems.
But Thursday, the state asked all Kentuckians to change how they use their water.
Officials with the Kentucky Division of Water are encouraging everyone to conserve water by cutting back on non-essential uses. This includes watering lawns, hosing down sidewalks, and filling swimming pools.
The rain Tuesday only brought short term relief to the state. Officials say current rainfall deficits range from six to 10 inches across much of the state.
They say normal rainfall, plus another six to seven inches of rain will be needed to break the drought.
The Division of Water says so far, there haven't been any reports of water supply shortages due to the lack of rainfall.
But unusually high demands for water have made it hard for water treatment, storage, and distribution systems in 12 counties. Those are Bourbon, Casey, Estill, Garrard, Grant, Harrison, Mercer, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Shelby, and Woodford Counties.
