A disturbing discovery after a grandfather finds his son and granddaughter dead inside the garage of their home in what's being called a murder-suicide. Now her classmates are dealing with the loss of the young teen

Authorities are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened on Torrey Pines Trail in the Boone Trace subdivision in Madison County, near the Bull Golf course. Authorities say the father and daughter were found just before 1:00 Sunday afternoon.

Those that knew 43-year old Richard Moore are trying to figure out how he could do what authorities are saying. He and his 13-year old daughter, Kelsey, were found dead in their garage in what's being called an apparent murder-suicide. The Madison County Sheriff's Department says the two were found on a mattress next to a vehicle in the garage that appears to have been deliberately left running.

The coroner says their estimated time of death, however, was about 12 hours before that, from what appears to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

Neighbors say Moore owned his own construction company and built many of the homes in that very subdivision.

Investigators say the bodies of the father and daughter were found by a neighbor and Richard Moore's father in the home's garage after the car was left running. Officials say Moore had failed to pick up his other children in Nicholasville Sunday morning, causing the initial concern.

The bodies have been sent to Frankfort for autopsies.

On Monday faculty at Southern Middle School in Lexington, where 13-year-old Kelsey went to school, had the difficult task of letting students know about Kelsey's death.

Teachers say Kelsey was a well-known student, who was in the disability class for having Angelman's syndrome, neuro-genetic disorder, but was always laughing and had a smile on her face.

Her teacher, Erin Fetko, says they had a very close classroom, and it hit the other students hard today with Kelsey not being around, some of them asking numerous times where she was.

Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington is handling Kelsey Moore's funeral arrangements. We're told it will be a private service for the family.

As for Rick Moore, authorities say he divorced last year and has been going through financial hardships and has recently been unable to to sale his home. They aren't sure if that played a role in this murder-suicide.
