Senators Take Up No-Confidence Measure

Video will be available shortly

CAPITOL HILL (AP) - A no-confidence vote is expected later today in the Senate on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Majority Democrats are forcing their Republican colleagues on
the record about whether he should keep his job.

Bush is voicing his support for Gonzales ahead of the vote. At a news conference today in Bulgaria, the president said the vote won't determine who serves in his government. He says he'll make the determination as to whether Gonzales is effective.

No one is predicting that the symbolic no-confidence resolution will survive even a test vote. But not many of the Senate's 100 members are rushing to defend Gonzales. What goodwill remained after the firings of eight federal prosecutors seemed to fade after the attorney general told a Senate committee dozens of times he could not recall key details.
