Community mourns loss of minister scheduled to speak tonight at church

A well-known Scott County minister died in a late Tuesday night crash.

Sheriff's deputies say Roger Barkley, 61, crashed into a tree on Long Lick Pike, near Honaker Road.

Barkley was rushed to U.K. Hospital, where he died early Wednesday.

Deputies say he was alert and conscious following the crash and told them he swerved to avoid hitting another car that had crossed the center line.

That car took off. Police have no description of it.

Barkley and his family operated The Barkley Family gospel group. Barkley was an ordained Southern Baptist minister and head of Barkley Family Ministries.
