ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State Police are
investigating the fatal shooting of a Tennessee man on Christmas by
two police officers in Hardin County.
According to police, Thomas Everett, 39, of Elizabethton, Tenn.,
was shot after he brandished what officers believed was a pistol at
two Radcliff police officers.
Trooper Bruce Reeves, a Kentucky State Police spokesman, said
Saturday that investigators now say the pistol was a fake weapon.
Police in Vine Grove started pursuing Everett after getting a
report that he and his girlfriend failed to pay a bar bill. Police
said he crashed his car and then stole a police cruiser.
Reeves said as he sped away in the cruiser, Everett struck a
police officer, who suffered minor injuries.
Police followed him to John Hardin High School where he stopped
the car after getting a flat tire.
