A Louisville man will be spending his new year behind bars in the Fayette County Jail.

Police arrested the man who allegedly caused a five car pileup after leading police on a short yet high speed chase down Nicholasville Road.

An officer was filling up his gas tank at the Speedway near the Zandale shopping center when a car at the station quickly sped away. When the officer began following the car, it sped up. After running a red light, the driver hit five cars. No one was hurt.

When authorities arrested the man, they discovered he was driving a stolen car and had warrants for his arrest in Louisville.

The suspect has been identified as Kerry Russell Jones. Police say he had outstanding warrants on charges of assault on a police officer and escape.
