UK Player Undergoes Knee Surgery

Kentucky point guard Derrick Jasper has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. The school expects he'll recover in time for practice in October.

UK basketball spokesman Scott Stricklin said today he couldn't provide information about how Jasper hurt the knee. The school says Friday's procedure was aimed at clearing loose cartilage from the knee and will sideline him through the summer.

Jasper broke into the starting lineup as a freshman last year and ended up starting 27 of the Wildcats' games. He figures to be a prominent member of Kentucky's back court rotation this season under new coach Billy Gillispie, along with fellow sophomore Jodie Meeks and seniors Joe Crawford and Ramel Bradley.
