As Clay City continues to mourn the death of Police Chief Randy Lacy, officials are wanting to make sure the town moves forward.

They appointed Shannon Taylor as chief, who was actually hired in a support role before the shooting.

Monday was his first day as chief.

He isn't the first person to suddenly have to fill some very big shoes, but just knowing that doesn't make the transition any easier.

"No, I've got my job cut out for me, picking up where he left off," said Taylor. "That's for sure. I've got a job to do. I mean you just gotta depend on the Lord."

Lacy had hired Taylor about three weeks ago, but the new officer never even got to do a ride along with the man he admired so much, a man he now hopes to emulate.

Taylor says he also wants to continues Lacy's hard work in the battle against drugs.
